Biography
Gladys Michell, Fashion & Creative Designer, grew up in North Central British Columbia with her grandmother, Dr. Mary John, Stoney Creek Woman, (1998. Moran. Arsenal Press)., Gladys learned how to sew Barbie™ clothes and designing her own doll patterns. Her Granny Mary believed that every woman needed to have a skill not only for economic reasons but to ensure their way of life was carried on. She draws her energy from her mother and grandmother.
After selling their Forest Products business, Gladys was able to return to her creating and designing interests. A good friend of hers led her back to the industry by having Gladys be a tester for bag making. Gladys developed some collaborations with other artists and designers.
Some of Gladys’ pieces of work has been sold around the world. A proud moment in Gladys’ design career is one of her pieces was worn on the red carpet at the 2024 Academy Awards.
Gladys lives with her husband at the Stellat’en First Nation near the Town of Fraser Lake, BC. They have a son, many step children and grand-children.
